Fremont Fair
Worked the Fremont Fair today. Had some pretty good shows. Had a guy watch my act three times, from three different angles. He later came up to me and said, "I think I figured out what your doing with the rings". I nodded with a smile on my face and said, "right on". The sun shined and the breeze blew, people were happy to be at the the fair. I was happy to be at the fair. . . .until the drum circle started and the stage behind me presented their first act. The noise was making it hard for me to want to crank out more shows, but I did a few more. I asked the audience if they could hear me, and they said they could. It got to be too much, the drum circle was drowning out my own thoughts. I wondered how long can they go on, but I knew the sad truth. . . forever. Don't get me wrong, I dig drum circles. . . in the parking lot of a Grateful Dead show after 2 hits of. . . . my cigar. I felt bad for the balloon twister, they set up less that 5 feet from him!! I realize he doesn't talk much in his work, but I could tell by the look on his face that he was not a happy camper.
I had put in a couple hours at that point and did pretty well. I thought about leaving and going to the market. I packed up and looked for a different spot. I knew I wanted to see the "Vinyl Avengers" at 3PM on the main stage and had an hour to kill. I put my stuff in the car and walked across the street to Roxy's Deli where I had the best corned beef sandwich and potato latkes that I had eaten since moving to Seattle.
I was happy to be away from the fair for a while. I saw the band and video taped some of their set. These are the guys I see every Wednesday Night. The do a hell of a job! Saw a few people I knew in the audience and hung out with them while the band played and enthusiastic set.
Blew off the rest of the day. Tried hard not to think about it being Father's Day and how much I miss the kids. Called them on the phone. Good to hear their voices.
Later in the evening Buster and I walked down the street a couple of blocks and joined Wil, Carie, Jinell and Ryan. They were cooking out on Alki Beach. We had a nice time with friends. Buster and Wil had brought their array of swords they had made out of pvc, foam and duct tape. Everyone battled. I even joined in for a brief match with Buster. Afterwards, we all came back to my place. I really like Wil and Carie. They have been very good friends to me and Buster. I'd like to find a way to show them how much I value their friendship.
Enough mindless jibber jabber for one night. I should go to bed.

I hate when drum circles set up at something like that. They aren't entertaining anyone but themselves, and they drown out anyone and anything else around. They have no regard for their surroundings, most times, and seem to think that the longer they go, the more people are entertained. I once walked out on a gig because they wanted me to perform, "Whiile the drum circle plays."
It paid shit anyways.
