Newsgroup Post • What are YOU trying to do?
The topic of the week is "What are YOU trying to do?"
What I mean by this is:
In your performance, what is it that you would like the audience to experience?
We want to mystify them, and entertain them. . . sure, but what other types of reactions can we look for.
As I perform regularly, I am constantly tweaking my expectations as to what I want out of my audience and what I believe they want from me.
We spend so much of our time on technique and tricks that some of these larger issues get lost in the shuffle.
Lets spend a little time evaluating what we bring to the table as magical entertainers.
I like to think that we fulfill an important social need.
In the world we live in, it's easy to loose hope.
I like to think that magic represents hope in the world.
The idea of rediscovering the inner child in a jaded adult is as noble a cause as the smile on a child's face.
Or maybe I'm the deluded one thinking I can do this at all.
By asking myself what it is that I want from my art and how can I let my audiences know that is what I want is an interesting discussion that I hope we will explore a little here.
Anyone. . . . . ?

The old adage, "always leave them wanting more" is useful here. From it we might find that we only HAVE them if they want more. Creating that need; them wanting more of what we have to give, is at the very heart of all entertainment. And is only discovered within oneself.
